I always watched him. I sometimes wondered if I could ever be with him. But he never really showed me that he even cared for me…well, maybe as a comrade. But that’s all. I worried about him, fussed over him, and did everything I could so he could be safe. But he never reciprocated any feelings back to me. Even though the war with Zorndyke is over, he’s still the same old self, obnoxious, conceited, and annoying. Yet, I still love him. But I don’t think there’s any hope for him and me.
Kino snapped out of her thoughts as Hayami called to her.
“Hey Kino, what are you doing all the way back there?”
Kino shook her head. “None of your business Hayami.”
Hayami climbed down to where Kino was reading her book. “Hey Kino, now that the war is over, why are you still here? Wouldn’t you rather be up on the surface?”
“What’s the use? My family is dead and most of my friends are in Blue 6,” she replied.
“I see.”
“Why are you so interested anyway? You want to go back?”
Hayami shook his head. “No…I was just wondering.”
Kino closed my eyes. “I see.”
“How can you see when your eyes are closed?” Hayami teased.
Kino’s eyes flew open as she glared at him. “Very funny Hayami. Really, you should’ve become a comedian.”
Hayami pretended to be flattered. “You think Kino? You think I have potential?”
Kino’s mind screamed at him. “Ahh! Hayami, I’m going.”
Hayami protested. “I was just kidding! You don’t have to take it so seriously!”
Kino let out a loud sigh, glared at him, and left.
‘Hm, she’s pretty damn sexy when she glares at me like that…’ Hayami thought as he took off after her.
Kino headed to her room and rested on the mattress. ‘Why does he always tease me? I’m cursed. I wonder why he doesn’t do it to everyone else?’ Kino rested her head on the pillow and closed her eyes. ‘I’m just reading too much into it.’ She fell asleep.
Meanwhile, Hayami was wondering the entire sub when he stopped short at Kino’s room. ‘It’s been and hour, perfect time to bother her!’ He opened the door quietly and was greeted by a sleeping figure. ‘She looks so peaceful…and beautiful. I don’t really want to bother her now…’ Hayami smiled. “You’re lucky you’re sleeping, Kino. But I’ll be back,” he whispered before leaving the room.
An hour later, Kino woke up and saw a Hayami in front of her. She screamed and fell out of her bed.
“Hayami, are you trying to kill me or something?!” Kino yelled out after getting up.
Hayami shrugged, amused. “No, I was just watching you, that’s all. Is something wrong with that?”
“You think I want to wake up seeing a big face staring at me?! Geez, I almost had a heart attack!”
“Aww, poor Kino. Want me to give you a hug and kiss to make you feel better?” Hayami replied, sarcastically.
“Why are you even in my room anyway?” Kino asked.
“Just checking to see if our the sub’s little girl is alright!”
Kino fumed. “HAYAMI!!!”
Hayami ran to the door. ‘Uh oh…’
“Come back here!!! I’m not through with you yet!!” Kino yelled chasing after him.
Hayami ran into a closet nearby. ‘Damn, why did she have to run so fast?’ As soon as he heard the scuffling of feet pass by he opened the door slowly. He looked around quickly and sighed in relief. “I guess I lost her.”
“Not quite.”
Hayami turned suddenly and felt something cold and wet thrown on him. He dropped to the floor. “Aghh! What the hell…?!
Kino stood up, satisfied. “Hmph, that’ll teach you!” she then turned and left to the quiet solitude of her room.
Hayami, on the other hand, was far from angry. In fact he was downright pissed off and yet, still slightly amused. He wiped some water off his brow. ‘I’ll get you Kino. You just wait and see.’
Kino ran into her room, laughing. ‘Did I just drop a bucket filled with water over Hayami’s head? I can’t believe I did that!’ Kino stopped laughing and flipped over on her bed and looked at the picture on her nightstand. “I wonder what my sister would say to me right now.” Kino smirked. “She’d probably say, ‘Go girl!’” Kino got up and went out to the hallway and decided to get a bite to eat.
Hayami was sitting in the room called the cafeteria contemplating plans to get even with Kino when the object of his evil doings just so happened to walk in. Hayami straightened up in his seat and quickly took a book and pretended to be reading.
Kino got her food and sat down on a table when she realized that it was Hayami that was reading a book. ‘Hayami reading a book? There is something definitely wrong with that!’ she sat down next to him. “Hey Hayami.”
Hayami continued reading. ‘I’ll just pretend I’m mad at her and she’ll leave me alone!’
“Hayami? I know you aren’t reading that book Hayami so talk to me.”
‘How would she know if I was reading or not?’
“You know how I know? Cause I know you hate reading and you told me yourself you wouldn’t read a book for you life and secondly…that book is upside down.”
‘Damn…’
Kino shrugged. “Alright, if you won’t talk to me fine. I’ll just eat by myself.”
Hayami glanced at Kino as she sat farther down the table and ate quietly to herself. ‘Maybe I should join her…no! I won’t…I have to think of a way to get her back first!’ Hayami eyebrows furrowed.
Kino glanced at Hayami as he frowned. ‘What is he thinking? Oh no…he’s probably thinking of a way to get back at me! Damn, I got to lock my bedroom door now.’ She got up and took her food to her room.
Hayami looked up as Kino left. ‘I wonder what she’s up to now?’ He shrugged and continued to read his book. ‘This book is a lot more interesting than I thought it would be…’
